Taking the Lead with Solar Power
Breakell Inc. is committed to reducing its carbon footprint. After changing many daily habits and practices to conserve energy in the office, Breakell Inc. has taken the next reduction step and installed an on-site, 15.4 kW photovoltaic solar array to meet the challenge of maximizing our use of solar energy.
After extensive research, Breakell Inc. selected Siliken SLK60P6L photovoltaic solar panels which are a high quality product with a generous warranty and exceptional efficiency. California-based Siliken Renewable Energy, Inc. has a global track record of success. The panels are UL and TUV rated to ensure a superior product with consistent performance guaranteeing a prompt return on your investment.
Breakell’s solar array consists of sixty-eight 230 watt panels and twelve 225 watt panels. The name plate wattage for the array is 15,580 watts. The first phase was completed in September 2009 and consisted of 30 panels. The second phase was completed in May 2010 and consisted of 38 panels. The panels use Enphase M-190 microinverters which unlike traditional “chain” inverters are individual compact units that attach directly to each solar power module, converting DC to AC power at the source. This process sends valuable performance information from each panel to Breakell’s Tridium Building Automation System for collection and analysis. The panels are tied directly to the grid sending power back to the utility company after the building’s needs are satisfied resulting in a credit when excess power is returned to the utility company. The free standing unit mounted in the rear parking area provides shade for the parking lot and reduces heat island effect.
