Carilion RCH 5th & 6th Floor Renovations

Renovations to the fifth and sixth floors of Carilion’s Roanoke Community Hospital created new classrooms and a variety of laboratories for the Jefferson College of Health Sciences. As the construction manager, Breakell Inc. oversaw the demolition of both floors and began the process of reconfiguring the area to meet the educational needs of the students. Biomedical research laboratories, operating room laboratories, a physical therapy laboratory, occupational therapy laboratory, classrooms and some common areas now occupy the approximately 75,000 square feet. Supporting these research and teaching laboratories are very complex mechanical and lab exhaust systems.

New Horizons Healthcare

A design/ build project, Breakell Inc. completed renovations of more than 14,000 square feet which included the adult care clinic, pediatric care clinic, behavior health services, pharmacy/medication assistance program area, and administrative offices. During construction, the clinic added three more exam rooms, increased the size of the laboratory and waiting area, and replaced all of the exam tables and other equipment to improve patient accessibility and comfort. Approximately 2,400 square feet of the healthcare facility were renovated for the Reverend Dr. William L. Lee Education Center which serves as a tribute to the unwavering dedication of Rev. Lee who was the founding board chairman of the non-profit community health center. Each area received all new finishes including carpeting, VCT flooring, paint, wall covering and casework. The renovations were completed in phases allowing the healthcare facility to remain fully operational throughout the construction. Funding for the project came from a federal stimulus HRSA grant.
